General Licensing Requirements for the State of Texas
Provisional Information When you have met all the requirements of the program you will be notified by the Commission via letter with regards to receiving your regular individual license. Until you are notified by the Commission, all fees paid, and all administrative paperwork completed you are still a provisional licensee and must continue to be supervised. Do not call and request your paperwork mailed to you…the Commission will have all the information and will send you your notification when you have met all the requirements. ***Notice to clarify the confusion regarding the authorization to embalm form.*** Please be advised that the notation on the
form that states "Mortuary Students may only participate in embalming if
permission is in writing and in the possession of the Licensed Embalmer
at the time of the procedure" applies only to Mortuary Students that are
not licensed as Provisional Licensees. NEW *** ATTENTION PROVISIONAL LICENSEE There have been some major changes to the provisional licensing program that will have a direct impact on the completion of your program. With the adoption of several new rules the procedures required for the provisional program has changed. Effective immediately you no longer are required to have a sponsor. However, pursuant to Texas Administrative Code 203.6, Provisional Licensees, you are now required to report directly to the Funeral Director in Charge (FDIC) or the Embalmer in Charge (EIC), whichever is applicable. It is the responsibility of the provisional licensee and the FDIC and/or the EIC to schedule case work sufficient for the successful completion of the provisional program. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the FDIC and/or EIC to ensure the provisional licensee under their employment has direct supervision at all times. Beginning September 1, 2009, the monthly funeral director and embalmer training reports will no longer be submitted to the Commission. The original training report shall be submitted to your FDIC or EIC, whichever is applicable. Two copies of the original training report should be made by the provisional licensee, one copy for the establishment files, and one copy for the provisional licensee’s records. Your FDIC and/or EIC will keep track of the number of case credit you receive each month. There is one document for case reporting that can be used for either funeral directing or embalming. Once all requirements of the provisional program have been met your FDIC and/or EIC will notify the Commission in writing that you are ready to exit the program and become fully licensed. It is the intention of the TFSC to ensure quality training by the industry with hands-on teaching. With the changes that have taken place those in the program should find the new procedures less cumbersome and more relaxed, while still maintaining the integrity of the death care industry in the state of Texas.
